East Ridge High School has been designated to make every teaching station a learning lab. A learning lab is a place where listening, observing, experimenting and demonstration can occur. These learning labs are organized into six areas. Each area contains classrooms, lab spaces, study spaces, teacher planning areas, special-ed rooms, student restrooms, student lockers and staff restrooms.

The building is composed to enable community use of the 950-seat auditorium, 2,200-seat gymnasium, fitness track, cafeteria and group lecture room without compromising the security and operations of the sustainable architecture elements that have been incorporated comprehensively. Daylight has been brought into the most interior areas of the building through roof skylights and two-story atria.

Mechanical systems have been designed to maximize air quality and minimize energy use. Heat-recovery systems, variable motion, intelligent controls, numerous electrical features and building construction elements have resulted in large financial rebates. All building materials have been selected based on their sustainable value and proximity to the project site.
