“Why not change the world?” is the theme that inspired the renovation of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s main library into an innovative and user-friendly research facility that better serves its tech-savvy academic community.

An attractive, welcoming atmosphere was achieved by incorporating smooth curves on custom desks, ceilings and carpeting. The space was opened up visually to foster social interaction and collaborative work; low-profile, mobile bookcases and interactive tables provide an adaptable environment with wonderful vistas to the campus, the city and the Hudson Valley.

Reference materials are near accessible information hubs that provide high-speed access to a multitude of electronic resources.

Circulation and information service functions were integrated into the lobby next to a thought-provoking art wall displaying the institute’s theme on an inverted world map formed by many of the languages used at this diverse and global technological university.
