The design of the new Spring Ridge Elementary School reinforces the theme of the ridges. Classroom clusters are arranged by grade in a stairstep pattern across the site, maximizing the view and natural light in all rooms.
Ridges repeat throughout the building in the exterior facade detail and media center. As a focal point, the media center’s layout, three pyramid CAPACITY420COST PER SQ FT$95.00FEATURED IN2001 Architectural Portfolio windows and strong angular lines reinforce the theme and draw natural light into the center of the building.
The 420 K-5 students are organized in six houses with three multipurpose areas designed to have the feel of a living room. This area, with its large windows to the outside, acts as a circulation zone for entering and exiting, hanging coats, restrooms and teacher planning. Once students pass through the living room, they enter the classroom, where the focus is on learning.
A folding track wall allows the commons area adjacent to the gymnasium the flexibility to be separated or joined. The music room configuration matches the commons area layout, so when students move from practice to performance, the stage plan remains unchanged.
