The project required the renovation of 25,776 square feet of existing space, along with construction of 11,953 square feet of infill space, and 5,623 square feet of a new enclosure over the existing entry ramp. The new entry and canopy are constructed with glass and metal panels to contrast the mass of the brick and relate to the existing lead-coated copper penthouses, as well as highlight the space as an entry. Proper scale and harmony with the surrounding building have been maintained. The new grand entrance also serves as a gathering space and community art gallery.
The use of natural light was a major factor in the design.
