The program for this major addition to Pierson High School was developed by the architects in close collaboration with the community of this small seaside village.

The addition, a compact three-story expansion will feature 12 classrooms, six science/lab facilities, art and music suites, cafeteria, library/media center and two-station gymnasium.

Leaving the ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCO FIRMWiedersum Associates Architects, PLLCCOST PER SQ FT$119.00FEATURED IN2000 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYWork in Progress 1901 facade intact, the addition will take advantage of the south-facing aspect to the playing fields and the grade change, while maintaining the historic context.

The new facility will promote the seamless use of old and new, provide flexible teaching spaces, create small prep areas for teachers throughout the building, encourage after-hours use by the community; and keep a mandated separate identity for the middle school.

The new facility will have upgraded MEP systems and will be wired for LAN and Internet use. The materials, furniture and lighting have been selected to meet the community’s environmental concerns.

The existing auditorium will become ADA-compliant and will have access to a new green room/music room that will allow student actors to make their costume changes inside the building instead of outside on the lawn as they do now.

Note: Area = 57,000 sq. ft. (addition); 60,000 sq. ft. (renovation)
