The new Milford High School Performing Arts Center is a multiuse instructional facility that provides space for the school’s drama and music departments. The center also fills an important community need by supporting instrumental and vocal productions, dance and regional corporate training.
The performing-arts addition, with rehearsal rooms for instrumental and COST PER SQ FT$221.00FEATURED IN2000 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYSpecialized music, is at the end of the existing high school and serves to visually “terminate” the long facade. The massing and proportions of the existing building were replicated across the front, while the larger masses of the house and fly loft were located behind the facade. The facility can be operated independent of the school; consequently, building security is maintained during the evening hours.
The major components of the facility include a 650-seat theater with an orchestra pit; fly-loft and rigging systems; and sound reinforcement and assisted-listening systems for the hearing-impaired. A scene shop and storage, large and small dressing rooms, costume storage, green room, faculty office, music library and individual practice rooms are provided.
