The overall organizational concept is the separation of the educational classroom spaces from the public spaces by a gently curved corridor that leads the visitor through the building. The building features three schools-within-the-school utilized by 6th through 8th grades, and is completely designed and wired for technology.

The existing site was approximately 6 ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCAPACITY900COST PER SQ FT$87.31FEATURED IN1998 Architectural Portfolio below the level of its two bordering streets. In order to expedite the construction schedule, the architect arranged for the sitework to take place prior to the contracting work.

The building is a masonry facility constructed from split and ground-face concrete block, utility face brick, cast stone and concrete masonry units. The structural system is a combination of bar joists and steel trusses on load-bearing masonry walls and steel-frame construction.

The technology lab has separate workstations, and the entire building is networked both internally and to the other buildings in the district.
