The Lockport High School—East Campus program represented an expansion of academic and physical-education facilities to increase the building’s capacity from 1,000 to 3,000 students. Comprehensive educational specifications were developed in conjunction with faculty, staff, district administrators and community participants. The project also included a comprehensive COST PER SQ FT$108.58FEATURED IN2000 Educational InteriorsINTERIOR CATEGORYPhysical-Education Facilities/Recreation Centers of 79,000 square feet of existing space.
One of the major elements of this project was the Community Wellness Center. The largest component is the 65,000-square-foot fieldhouse, which consists of locker rooms, a six-lane running track, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts, badminton courts, batting/golf cages, pole vault and long-jump pits. Other components include fitness, aerobic, dance and weight studios.
The 37,000-square-foot natatorium is handicapped-accessible and consists of eight 25-yard lanes, public and private locker rooms, and a 600-seat spectator area. The 13-foot-deep tank is suitable for diving competitions and for classes, from scuba to kayaking. A step-in access pool provides easy access for the physically impaired.
The community room is integrated with the technology used throughout the high school.
