Evergreen Elementary School serves children in grades K-4. Faced with overcrowded classrooms, lack of multipurpose space and a desire to relocate the current kindergarten program from the district’s middle school to this elementary school, the architect developed a plan for three separate additions to the school.
The kindergarten addition is a radial COST PER SQ FT$93.45FEATURED IN2000 Educational InteriorsINTERIOR CATEGORYClassrooms arrangement, which allows for windows on three of the walls of each room and brings the classroom doorways together around a common gathering area with a skylight focal point. The large classrooms include storage rooms, toilet rooms, coat cubbies and drinking fountains.
The fourth-grade addition includes an offset in the circulation corridor to provide a space for informal student gatherings under a central skylight. The lineal pattern of the floor tiles leads the students from each end of the corridor to the gathering area.
