The renovated Taubman Health ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONASSOCIATED FIRMBallingerCOST PER SQ FT$235.00FEATURED IN2017 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYRenovation Library is an integral part of a new collaborative teaching model for one of the top medical schools in the nation. This LEED Gold-certified project rejuvenated a largely windowless five-story brick building. A comprehensive formation and benchmarking effort determined the most effective design.
The resulting addition and renovation transformed the building into a light-filled, flexible facility that promotes collaboration and hands-on learning. An updated exterior offers transparency with a high-performing glass curtain wall that blends with the surrounding medical complex. A café and lounge encourage interdisciplinary collaboration.
Students and faculty now enjoy a range of flexible study and meeting spaces including collaboration labs and learning studios. The facility also offers an Anatomage Table, a life-sized interactive system for anatomy education. Careful planning of the clinical skills suite created an entire floor of scalable teaching and support spaces along with an increased number of simulation rooms for all health science students. Design of interior spaces, such as inviting, double-height, naturally illuminated lounges, takes advantage of the new exterior transparency.
