University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Volunteer Garage

Knoxville, Tennessee

The Volunteer Garage (G16) was completed in conjunction with the adjacent Stokely Residence Hall. The efficient six-level concrete parking garage provides more than 1,000 spaces and has two different vehicular entrances at ground level. It serves the residence hall as well as commuter students, faculty and staff.
The garage offers smart parking technology that enables ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONFEATURED IN2017 Architectural Portfolio app users to see parking availability in real time. This car-counting system, called AutoCount, provides a live data feed of the garage’s occupancy. In-ground loops detect vehicle movement at designated points in the garage, which is communicated via LTE to the AutoCount cloud, then made available to the campus community.
Particular attention was paid to the collegiate gothic detailing of the envelope to ensure that the new facility complements adjacent buildings and adheres to campus architectural standards.
