Built in 1964, the St. Pius X Education Center has seen its student population grow steadily over the years, and it needed modernization to accommodate expanding class sizes. An expansion on the east end of the existing school provides new classrooms and offices, a science center, a music room with acoustic paneling, a high-security lobby and ADA-compliant entry system, ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCOST PER SQ FT$170.00FEATURED IN2017 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYRenovation vaulted ceilings with exposed Glulam beams.
A staircase was strategically placed at the east end of the new addition to welcome daylight into a windowless basement. The project team worked collaboratively with the school to create a contemporary design that blends seamlessly with the existing building, and will serve the school for another 50 years on a fixed budget. Architectural massing and coloring tie the new addition to the existing building and achieve the school’s goal of a seamless facility.
