The Angier School was the oldest school building still in service in Newton, but it could not accommodate the school program and had extensive maintenance deficiencies. DiNisco developed an innovative design for new construction on the ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCAPACITY465COST PER SQ FT$360.00FEATURED IN2017 Architectural Portfolio 1.97-acre site.

The new school features a plaza that is both an outdoor morning gathering space and classroom. It also is an attractively landscaped interface with a separation from the public street. Drop-off zones and pedestrian access have separate areas for buses, cars, and pedestrians.

The building’s layout is compact and efficient, yet gracious, with beneficial views and solar orientation. The administration area is situated at the entry, central to school activities. The cafeteria connects to outdoor play areas, the stage, and the music room. Three grades are grouped together on each of the upper floors, providing maximum opportunities for teacher collaboration.

The building’s fenestration and massing facing the street and neighbors are appropriately scaled. The overall effect of the building is aesthetically pleasing, conveying all the best attributes for education and a civic-minded facility.
