Ohio University set out to create a “wildly different” dining experience on campus. That vision was achieved through benchmarking and diligent planning within a difficult space in an outdated building.
The District on West Green is in Boyd Hall, a 1960s-era housing and dining facility. Boyd Market features a vegetable butcher and a smoothie bar for students looking for a meal on the go. About 17 percent of all food served is sourced within 250 miles of campus.
The District on West Green incorporates reclaimed wood, daylighting and Energy Star equipment, aligning the renovation with the university’s vision. The project was completed on a tight eight-month construction timeline.
Sales of non-student meals are up 137 percent, and the university is offering the more healthful menu options wihtout an increase in food costs. Students have been extremely receptive to the change.
