Brown Bioengineering Lab. The NEST layout is a radical departure from all other existing labs at Rice University.
The university challenged FKP to design a space that would better foster “the business” of research. The application of workplace design thinking resulted in almost 20 percent more lab area, 9.5 percent increased efficiency, 30 percent more bench space, three different types of work areas and 10 collaboration portals at a final cost of $12 per square foot below the budget target.
