Decorah High School
Design team: StruXture Architects
Decorah High School was in dire need of improvements. After more than a year of exploring options, analyzing buildings and preparing a master plan, the district persuaded voters to approve a bond referendum.
The project consisted of several additions, a remodeling of the existing building, updating of COST PER SQ FT$120.00FEATURED IN2016 Architectural Portfolio mechanical/electrical systems, and a new life safety and sprinkler system. The classrooms were reorganized within the building to align with the educational program. New technology was added into every classroom, along with ample storage. A new vocational shop, a music room, and a competition gymnasium were added, and the old gymnasium was converted into a commons and cafeteria.
The front entrance was redefined with the addition of administrative offices, an Iowa Communications Network (ICN) room and a large vestibule. Security features, with lockdown capabilities, were added throughout the building for improved safety. The design also resulted in a large energy rebate for the district and created a stronger connection to the downtown and local community.
