Naples Central School District, Capital Improvement Project
Naples, New York
Constructed in 1938, Naples Central School District’s Junior/Senior High School, situated in the heart of New York state’s “wine country,” is a handsome example of the Art Deco era. The building had become dated and worn, and no longer served the needs of the district. The existing main entry failed to provide accessible, secure admittance to the facility. Moreover, the COST PER SQ FT$74.00FEATURED IN2016 Educational Interiors ShowcaseINTERIOR CATEGORYInterior Renovation building site was not approriately configured for vehicular and pedestrian circulation, further compromising safety.
A building addition was designed to accommodate a relocated main entry, main office, cafeteria, kitchen and pool. The addition tied together interior circulation corridors that were formerly disconnected. The majority of the building also underwent extensive renovations to update learning environments.
Care was taken with interior finishes and colors to complement and respect those from the original 1938 building, and create a cohesive interior experience. New design details also enhanced the interior of the original building.
The interior environment encourages flexible and collaborative spaces consistent with 21st-century learning. The improvements have given the community a new sense of pride.
