Montville Township High School, Media Center
Monteville Township, New Jersey
Montville Township High School’s library, untouched since 1972, housed typical stacks, a classroom, and outdated computing areas. The district envisioned a space where the educational needs of students, teachers and the community are met and encouraged to grow through exploration, creation and collaboration.
The media center was transformed into a modern learning ASSOCIATED FIRMSoyka Smith Design StudiosFEATURED IN2016 Educational Interiors ShowcaseINTERIOR CATEGORYLibraries/Media Centers by expanding into adjacent under-used areas. It embraces flexibility, collaboration and students’ evolving research and social development needs. Technology was infused into all aspects of the space, transforming a nondescript library into a true technological and research hub.
The space serves as a prominent venue for artistic exhibitions (hard copy, print and digital), as well as seminars, lectures and performances. Flexible, glass-walled classrooms, breakout huddle rooms, a performance platform, an exterior reading area, and a soaring circulation desk redefined the space to help bring research methods and opportunities into the modern world.
The space now supports the school’s overall vision and aligns with its District of Distinction award-winning Humanities Research Program, which is designed to engage all students at all academic levels, and advance higher-level thinking skills.
