The inspiration behind the design was the idea of “connections.” Major additions now connect the previously separate buildings into a contiguous campus. Outdoor spaces are generous, on a civic scale, and the sweeping façade of the new competition gym creates an impression of movement and activity.
One unusual aspect of this high school is that it was previously a ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCAPACITY2,000COST PER SQ FT$188.03FEATURED IN2015 Architectural Portfolio school. High schools often are converted into middle schools, but here things went the opposite route. During district-wide master planning it was determined that the best long-term solution for both campuses was for Forney High School and Forney Middle School to swap sites. Each school is now well situated for long-term growth.
In the most recent phase, additions include the new gym, a larger dining area, a larger band hall, a new field house, and an expanded and relocated front office suite.
New career and technology education facilities include medical sciences, engineering technology, culinary arts, broadcast/journalism, television/video studios, and horticulture gardens. The new competition gym has become a major community event destination and features an Athletics Hall of Honor.
