Zambetti Athletic Center, as well as the design of a new natatorium building on an adjacent site. The design approach creates an architectural dialogue between the two buildings; it unifies the expression of the athletic facilities and solidifies their presence on the hillside overlooking the Frank J. Bertino Memorial Field.
The natatorium is perched atop a wooded bluff overlooking Bertino Field. It houses a state-of-the-art six-lane competition swimming pool for recreation, fitness and competition. The building takes advantage of the steeply sloped site. Wet and dry components are separated, and excavation into the bedrock was minimized. In addition to the pool, the building will house student and staff locker rooms, spectator seating, offices and storage areas. The lobby and pool spaces are set behind a tall ribbon of north-facing glass that showcases the adjacent treetops and hillside and sets up an architectural dialogue among the athletic center, the new natatorium and the adjacent athletic field.
