NYU Polytechnic, Rogers Hall 2nd Floor Renovation

Brooklyn, New York

Graf & Lewent Architects redesigned 15,000 square feet of space in Rogers Hall, the primary education building at the New York University Polytechnic campus in Brooklyn. The spaces had not been updated in decades and were seriously out of date. The program called for 12 new classrooms that would meet NYU’s stringent standards for lighting, acoustical performance, ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCOST PER SQ FT$183.00FEATURED IN2015 Educational Interiors ShowcaseINTERIOR CATEGORYInterior Renovation systems and appearance. In addition, a student lounge was to be created to address the lack of casual student spaces at the Poly campus. New ADA-compliant restrooms were added to accommodate the increased population using the facility.
The design took advantage of opportunities presented by the industrial construction of the building and opened up the ceilings with acoustical “clouds” and exposed duct work. The renovation was coordinated with other projects in the building, including the installation of a central HVAC system and a window replacement program.
Project design began in Spring 2014, and Graf & Lewent planned the project so that the facility could be put into service for the Fall 2014 semester.
