Nestled adjacent to the existing neighborhood elementary school, this remarkable facility provides a unique program to serve the local community. Part school, part clinic, part adult education facility, the Mountain View Community Learning Center addresses the holistic needs of its constituents.
The Center's in-depth and complex program was COST PER SQ FT$142.00FEATURED IN2014 Architectural Portfolio in partnership with six unique stakeholders, including Salt Lake City School District, Intermountain Healthcare and the University of Utah College of Education. The yearlong planning process included meetings with community members, administration and staff at the adjacent Mountain View Elementary, multiple school district curriculum experts and teachers, volunteer eye doctors and dentists, mental health counselors, and the district community development director, who orchestrated the project.
This process resulted in a facility with three distinct and welcoming entry points, state-of-the-art learning spaces, and a remarkable transparency within the building. Further, the project includes a rainwater harvesting system, a rooftop photovoltaic solar panel array that provides 60 percent of the electrical load of the building, and a daylight harvesting system controlling the LED lighting used exclusively in the building.
