This single-phase, $8.5 million project included the renovation of the existing Paul Green Theatre, as well as the creation of a new 47,000-square-foot facility located adjacent to the existing theatre. The Paul Green Theatre is home to the Playmakers Repertory Company, North Carolina’s only non-profit, fully professional theatre and the centerpiece of the university’s ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCOST PER SQ FT$180.00FEATURED IN1999 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYRenovation program in dramatic arts.

Due to space constraints, the Department of Dramatic Art had been spread throughout six different buildings on campus. This lack of consolidation limited interaction between students, faculty and staff members, and restricted undergraduate student exposure to the professional theatre. The goal of the project was to incorporate the drama department and the Playmakers into one shared facility.

The new center houses the Department of Dramatic Art, including classrooms, a department library, and faculty and administrative offices.
