BCDM, together with the Navajo Tribe, a nomadic tribe originating from Alaska/Russia, created an indigenous architecture representing their tradition within the master plan. The Navajo people (Dine) view this project as a new beginning uniquely describing their “Navajo aesthetic” through floor pattern, orientation of plan, exterior form and dynamic symbolic elements, which include the four prominent mountains that border their original land and the four distinct colors recognized in their culture: black (north), white (east for the rising sun), blue (south) and yellow (west, for the setting sun).
Symbolism requires an east entry with the most important person always in the northwest area. The building’s “story” and symbolic elements add to the level within their educational program!
