The use of natural light reduces energy demands and helps to reduce eyestrain while increasing productivity. Creating an “inner courtyard” also provided additional shading from direct sunlight.

The teaching labs are uniquely designed for each department and incorporate sustainable materials such as renewable resource bamboo and non-petroleum based linoleum. Other materials were chosen for their high volume of recycled content. All windows utilize high performance glass to reduce the amount of UV light and solar heat gain. The building and associated site improvements implement a number of sustainable design practices and the project is on track to obtain LEED Silver Certification.
