This addition and renovation deliver large, day lit spaces that celebrate the school's performance programs and support simultaneous instruction of its numerous music offerings.

Site constraints dictated a two-story solution. The design groups the softer vocal and orchestra spaces upstairs with the louder band and steel drums downstairs. A tunnel connects the ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCOST PER SQ FT$148.61FEATURED IN2014 Educational InteriorsINTERIOR CATEGORYAuditoriums/Music Rooms spaces to the football field, while an enclosed, brick and glass walkway leads to the auditorium and protects orchestra instruments from the elements.

Finishes and acoustical treatments provide the right acoustics for each specialized music space. The use of several acoustic-rated systems keeps sound and vibration from transferring not only between rooms but also between floors. Supported by a small lobby and concessions space, the recital room is also used for school and alumni functions. A variety of practice rooms, offices and storage spaces complete the programs' needs.

The addition complements the historic 1929 main building while blending with the 1991 Arts and Science Center. The renovated auditorium incorporates new LED lighting, sprinklers and finishes while respecting the historic nature of the space.
