The new Math & Science Building anchors the Paris Junior College campus gateway and entry. The building honors the existing architectural language of the campus while providing a more modern expression. The siting completes a carefully planned entry sequence into the campus and preserves natural trees and elements. A main boulevard for the campus also was included in COST PER SQ FT$219.00FEATURED IN2013 Architectural Portfolio site development.
The resulting two-story building includes state-of-the-art technology with 15 classrooms, science labs, three interactive television classrooms for distance learning provided to small rural high schools, and a 120-seat lecture hall that can be separated into two 60-seat classrooms. The facility also incorporates a math center combined with a computer lab, faculty offices, an adjunct area, as well as an administration suite.
Daylighting in the facility is achieved by taking advantage of areas with northern exposures and providing appropriate shading to the south, east and west. The enclosed deck provides a space for students to relax and enjoy the sweeping scenic view.
