A vision for the future of Oral Roberts University (ORU) is represented by the construction of the Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center. School administrators envisioned this building as a place for food, fun and fellowship, and the space programming delivers. In keeping with the university’s philosophy of openness, the design intent was to create a nearly transparent structure with views of the iconic ORU Prayer Tower and Lake Evelyn. This was accomplished with a blue glass “spine” down the center of the building and by encasing the majority of the exterior walls in glass. This LED-lighted central spine was placed on an axis directly in line with both the Prayer Tower and Lake Evelyn to best facilitate such views.
The slope of the roofline is symbolic of hands upraised in victory—a nod to ORU’s evangelical Christian foundation.
