The Art Library and Screening Room at Hunter College aspire to be the social and intellectual hub of the art and film departments. 

The mission of this privately funded library is to be a communal space where students and faculty who share a passion can come together to socialize and exchange ideas outside the classroom or art studio.

The design ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONFEATURED IN2013 Educational InteriorsINTERIOR CATEGORYLibraries/Media Centers the library divides activities into three programmatically distinct yet connected zones:

1. The information desk is a lounge space for casual interaction among library patrons and perusal of recent acquisitions of the library. 

2. Traditional library space with custom white oak library tables and computer terminals.

3. Colloquia and small seminars.

The new screening room seats 70 people and serves an important role in bridging the liberal- and fine-arts programs of Hunter College.

State-of-the-art audiovisual equipment is integrated into the design. 

Paradoxically, a room whose primary function is performed in darkness utilizes a striking color palette.
