The College of Arts and Sciences at Lawrence Technological University was established in 1967 and had not been altered or upgraded since its original construction because of budget restraints and the presence of asbestos. This project focused on renovating four of the labs that no longer could support modern research. Chemical fume hoods also could not ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONASSOCIATED FIRMDetroit Technical Equipment Company; MA EngineeringCOST PER SQ FT$425.00FEATURED IN2013 Educational InteriorsINTERIOR CATEGORYLaboratories added. Further, the building was functioning at full utilization, so the dean had to use a modified toilet room as his personal lab.

The faculty submitted and was awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation to help modernize four laboratories and one walk-in environmental room.

The renovation demolished the interiors. The space then served as a blank slate that was reconfigured to modern standards and included new safety equipment, fume hoods, laboratory casework and finishes.

The life sciences research labs will be used by undergraduate students and faculty members across six academic programs: biomedical engineering, chemical biology, chemistry, environmental chemistry, molecular and cell biology, and psychology. The project was delivered on time and on budget.
