The Arkansas Tech University (ATU) Student Services Center is a two-story facility on the east edge of the campus. A concave, east facade reflects the building’s proximity to the circular Tucker Coliseum and invites visitors from the perimeter.
ATU wanted one-stop shopping for their students and accomplished this by consolidating student-services functions into CAPACITY1,200COST PER SQ FT$94.12FEATURED IN1999 Architectural Portfolio building. The registrar, admissions, student accounts and financial aid are located on the first floor, while career services, student housing, student services, dean of student affairs and student lounges are on the second level.
This facility also was designed for student organization functions. A student-government suite, meeting rooms, great room with a food court and a 300-seat auditorium accommodate student events for commuter and on-campus students. The west courtyard creates an outdoor theatre for special events.
Two winged entrances reach out toward the main campus from the west face, opening to serve university students, faculty and staff. The use of matching brick and precast concrete help to harmonize the building with the university’s existing architecture.
