The design challenge for the Regents Academy renovation/addition project was unique. The existing 60-foot by 100-foot metal building looked more like a warehouse than a school; it needed to undergo a complete transformation in order to reflect the Classical Christian teaching philosophy that sets the school apart from others in ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCAPACITY175COST PER SQ FT$64.00FEATURED IN2012 Architectural PortfolioSUB CATEGORYRenovation area.

A new cast-stone facade, with detailing inspired by the universities of old England, covers the dated wall panels and porte-cochere of the once-overlooked school, helping it to stand out in the community as a respected K-12 choice for academic excellence.

The original interior hallway had no visual interest, but it was reordered and revitalized with the use of a new colonnade, floor pattern, color scheme and simple detailing around the classroom doors.

In addition to reworking the existing interior space, a new 5,000-square-foot secondary school wing brings much-needed functionality with a science lab, computer lab, multipurpose room, secondary classrooms and new restrooms, increasing the building size to 11,000 square feet while meeting an extremely tight budget.
