To the west are research laboratories, a shelled imaging suite and a state-of-the-art clinical skills lab, where patient-centered care can be put into practice.
At the center of the building, students gather at the grand porch and cafe overlooking the courtyard rain garden. Expansive glass provides transparency and connection to the local community.
Community stewardship, at the heart of the educational model, is embodied through the building’s approach to sustainability. Heat recovery, stormwater harvesting, CO2 sensors, displacement ventilation and high-performance exterior glazing minimize energy consumption and improve the interior environment. Featured materials include Pennsylvania black granite, recycled content and low-VOC interior finishes.
The new facility reflects the mission and values of the institution—creating a timeless and inspirational design that embraces the rich history of Scranton while challenging students to transform the healthcare delivery model.
