The complex offers a variety of flexible spaces, including a new exterior amphitheater for formal and informal activities. It also accommodates intercollegiate athletic events and fitness programs, wellness-related classes, group study and collaborative learning, student clubs, summer camps, luncheons and receptions, commencement and community events, and just hanging out with friends. The additional space also accommodates new academic programs in more traditional lab/classroom settings.
The building’s location at the junction of the existing campus and an area planned for expansion make it a focal point and a vertical transition on the hillside campus. An extensive glass facade wraps around the building to promote the see-and-be-seen social component important to campus life. The glass walls are designed carefully to provide daylighting and enhance safety by promoting visibility while minimizing energy loss.
