Because the institute’s identity has been overshadowed by adjacent Lamar University, it was difficult to distinguish campus boundaries. The master plan creates a new campus entry, providing a "front door" to the campus, which gives LIT an unmistakable identity. This redesign also maximizes space within the 20-acre campus by replacing less space-efficient facilities with larger, multi-story buildings.
The final plan features a fly-by 3-D animation, illustrating proposed campus improvements at each phase. It has helped deepen understanding and support for the phased redesign and new campus vision. The master plan also includes recommendations addressing new facilities, parking reconfiguration, land acquisition, open/green space, campus sustainability, wayfinding and signage, vehicular circulation and a distinct entry defining the campus core.
