Taylor University needed a standalone building dedicated to daily prayer for students and faculty. On April 26, 2006, a university van transporting a group of students and staff was struck by a truck. Four students and one staff member lost their lives in the crash.
In light of this tragedy, Taylor University decided to CAPACITY100COST PER SQ FT$556.00FEATURED IN2011 Architectural Portfolio build a prayer chapel, and include a memorial to the accident victims. An outpouring of support from area business and individuals brought in the funds to build this important facility.
Completed in April 2008, the Memorial Prayer Chapel is situated conveniently among the student residence halls, academic core and activity areas. It can be seen from almost everywhere on campus.
It was important to bring the prayer chapel to the "heart" of campus for everyone to use, and the building signifies the importance of prayer that this community of believers holds at the center of everything in life.
The Memorial Prayer Chapel has become an iconic place on campus, one of the best examples of gathering for Taylor University’s "intentional community."
