Episcopal High School is one of the nation’s most prestigious private boarding schools, founded in 1839. Its Centennial Gymnasium, which opened in 1939, is one of several traditional brick structures on campus.
The school commissioned the architect to renovate and add on to the gymnasium. The solution breathes new life into the campus facilities while capturing the traditional look and aura.
The completed project more than doubles the size of the previous space for students to engage in physical activity, and offers the main basketball and volleyball courts.
The building also features three innovative classroom spaces where students can learn about health and wellness, meeting spaces, offices, locker rooms, team rooms and an athletic hall of fame.
The remodeled gymnasium blends seamlessly with the surrounding campus architecture and is near the school’s sports field, running track, football stadium and renovated outdoor swimming pool.
