Elements were designed throughout the project for opportunities to build student confidence and self-worth, such as multiple student gardens, an exercise room and climbing wall. The architects also incorporated science, art and life-skills classrooms, along with a computer lab, media center and Family Education Center.
Stimulating teaching environments have been created by the use of vibrant color and abundant daylighting through skylights, clerestories and large glazing windows.
The school will be one of the most energy-efficient schools in the state by using a super-efficient thermal wall system to exceed new energy codes by 50 percent (continuous insulation in the brick cavity, sealed air tight with spray foam insulation), geothermal heat-pump HVAC, three wind turbines, and 234 photovoltaic panels, providing 20 percent of the annual power requirements.
