New Prague High School is a three-story, 204,000-square-foot building for grades 9-12. It is designed to meet expectations and program requirements.
The commons area is a naturally lit, unique, two-story public commons with a soaring 80-foot skylight. It is central to the elective wing and two academic wings, and serves as a lobby for the auditorium and gymnasium. The two-story media center is the hub of the academic wings and accessible on both levels. It houses two computer studios, television studio, career center, and building-wide computer equipment. Floor trenches radiate to academic wings, allowing expedient/affordable technology additions/modifications.
The building provides ready access to administrative offices at the public entrance. The auditorium has seating for 600, and running track/top-loading bleachers are included in the upper level of the gymnasium.
Unique design characteristics include: energy-efficient lighting and mechanical systems; the northeast academic wing is designed/constructed for expansion; the brick/precast concrete exterior provides a design contrast and is durable, with cost-effective maintenance; warm, earth-toned materials are used throughout interior spaces; the safe/secure atmosphere invites students to explore, learn and adopt the space as their own; geometric windows and flooring create interesting design patterns.
