The Wavenet Training Room Addition at Horry-Georgetown Technical College is nestled in what was a large exterior breezeway in the middle of the admissions and auditorium building on campus.
The primary function of the space is a large training center. When needed, the space is divided with translucent, movable panels. The design of the space is set up on a grid created on two planes with wood ceiling tiles and carpet tiles. The grid sets up a datum for intuitive means of reconfiguring the space. The "void" areas demarcate circulation and "positive" areas demarcate activity areas.
Two opposing glass facades, following the geometry of the existing building, provide transparency from one courtyard to the other. The existing exterior brick wall is used as the interior wall, and brick matching the existing is used as the building envelope to keep within the existing architectural language.
