To meet growing enrollments, a major expansion and revitalization of this existing high school took place. Because of land constraints in this suburban lake district, it was decided early on to expand rather than replace the school. Site restraints also dictated that most of the added space be continued in a two-story addition to the west of the school, resulting in a CAPACITY2,000COST PER SQ FT$154.07FEATURED IN1999 Architectural Portfolio entrance.
The school’s new curved entrance provides West Bloomfield High School with a new image. The curving facade also is the basis for the school’s new logo, which is incorporated into signage throughout the building.
The new high school, which is flooded with natural light, can accommodate 2,000 students. The new two-story addition includes science labs, computer labs, art rooms, general classrooms, a dual-purpose room for aerobics and wrestling, a weight/fitness room, administration offices and a large atrium serving as a student commons area.
