The houses and other major areas in the facility are themed around historic legacy-leavers, including visionaries such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi, creating daily learning opportunities. Signage throughout provides a snapshot of inspiring individuals.

Technologically, all learning spaces include sound reinforcement and computer projection. Computer kiosks throughout the school promote on-demand serendipitous learning. The building utilizes automatic dimming, energy-efficient lighting and extensive daylighting. The excellent insulative value of the building envelope and the thermal displacement mechanical system contribute to a more healthful and energy-effective solution than conventional schools.

The school includes a large double gym, built in conjunction with the city, that enables the facility to become a true center of community. Adjacent to the school is a shared park, also developed by the city.

“Truly designed around learning. A fun and interesting design.”--2010 jury
