As a new elementary school in a new subdivision, the site adjoins a hike and bike trail system connected to parks, city ballfields and a lake. It uses design elements from the subdivision including natural stone and standing-seam metal roofing. A major design goal was to bring daylighting into every classroom. Another design goal was to create a colorful and playful interior that children (and teachers) would find exciting and stimulating. A special outdoor covered, landscaped lunch area on the north side is used for special occasions and as an incentive to inspire the children to excellence.
The project includes 30 classrooms, a music room, science lab, computer lab, art room, speech-therapy room, diagnostician room, reading-intervention room, life-skills room, library, cafetorium, kitchen, gym and administration office. Technology infrastructure is provided for video, computer networking and multimedia systems throughout all classrooms.
