The Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing & Technology (SIMT) is the premier technical-service provider and training facility for industry in the southeastern portion of the United States. The state-of-the-art facility was master-planned and designed on a 146-acre site, adjacent to the existing campus.

As one approaches ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONCOST PER SQ FT$143.00FEATURED IN2010 Architectural Portfolio complex, spectacular landscape features extend from the existing campus. The current building represents the hub of the master plan with future buildings radiating out.

SIMT provides engineering/CAD/CAM, manufacturing training, and 3D virtual-reality services. The facility’s specialized spaces include an 800-seat auditorium; a 20,000-square-foot exhibition space; large, multipurpose lobby area; 25,000-square-foot manufacturing arena; classroom and lecture rooms; and sophisticated 3D imaging studios.

The design team developed a high-tech appearance to convey to building users a clear understanding of its purpose. Building elements and materials were selected to enhance this appearance, such as a massive digital display on the entry tower, prefinished metal panels on the exterior, and large glass areas enabling visual layering within the building.

The structural system is a pre-engineered building system, which worked well for this application because of the technical/industrial nature of the building and numerous long-span spaces within the building.
