The design maximizes interior volume and natural lighting, drawing students and visitors into the space. Light fixtures are abstract forms that appear to float from the sky, providing visual interest and drama at night. The circulation desk is centered strategically between the two entrances for control and observation. A ceiling element that appears to hover over the circulation desk cleverly conceals the mechanical and electrical systems while emphasizing the control point of the space.
The stacks occupy the center of the library. A variety of reading, study and group spaces occupying the perimeter provide optimum flexibility, ranging from individual tables to a full teaching wall and seating for a class. Coupled with a media center and distance-learning lab, the library at Lampasas High School is a true 21st-century knowledge center.
