The design of learning spaces centers on the relationship between physical space and learning styles. Although the educational process is most effective when various teaching styles are employed, learning areas continually are designed using methods that follow conventional wisdom.

Groups of tables surrounded by contoured seating on die-cast rollers give flexibility to small-group meeting and study sessions. A bar-height table with comfortable stools enables users to study alone or converse with the person next to them. An illuminated wall along the back of the space serves as a focal point, and booth seating lining the wall gives users yet another place to meet.

Learning spaces are ideal for any college campus, but especially for commuter campuses like IUPUI. Because the space is user-focused, it provides an ideal transition between common areas and the classroom, and is the perfect setting for community building amongst student and faculty.
