Inside Zionsville High School’s Multi-Disciplinary Instructional Center, a new way of learning has high school students exploring ideas in a spacious and inspiring educational environment. Students in this program focus on one specific topic to research, develop and present at the end of the semester.
The center opened in COST PER SQ FT$131.70FEATURED IN2010 Educational InteriorsINTERIOR CATEGORYInterior Renovation 2008 and welcomed students, staff and visitors into a space decorated in greens, browns and grays. Carpeted floors give students a comfortable place to relax, and groups of chairs inside the center provide a flexible environment for small- or large-group collaboration. Larger tables also can be arranged for a flexible learning and working environment.
The teachers’ desks and work areas are situated along the center’s side walls, enabling easy supervision. A computer, phone and bookshelves for instructional materials are directly behind the teacher’s desk.
Because such an open space could become loud and distracting, different-shaped acoustical clouds are suspended from the ceiling to absorb the myriad sounds. Numerous windows and skylights incorporate daylighting in this former warehouse space.
