The Reggio Emilia method of teaching was the vision for the expansion of the Maplewood Richmond Heights Early Childhood Center. The ability to have access to the outdoors is an important aspect of the center because the environment informs a child’s exploration. A landscape space was designed along with a water exploration/conservation area to assist with the "seed-to-table" program in which students plant and harvest vegetables in the center’s garden.

Also included in this program were additional classrooms, along with specialty areas such as a performance stage, a library and an outdoor courtyard with an orchard and chicken coop. Each addition of the Early Childhood Center ties into the existing facility to create a seamless transition.
