Florida Atlantic University (FAU) required a food-service venue and banquet hall to accommodate the needs of alumni, students and the community. On the second floor, the architect designed a banquet hall with a multipurpose kitchen to accommodate different events such as faculty dinners, on-campus catering, weddings or seminars. Because of the unique character and design elements used, the space can be used separately or together depending on an event’s requirements.
To tie into FAU’s goal of certifying the College of Engineering as a LEED platinum building, the architect created an organic space with free-flowing forms, which enable the user to experience the space in a natural and timeless manner. The use of environmentally sensitive materials and striking daylight techniques create a strong connection with the exterior environment.
