This is a new 74,000-square-foot, three-story educational and administration facility for the San Antonio College campus. The building contains six academic departments: business, foreign languages, philosophy, continuing education, computer technology and continuing-education management offices.
The project scope included COST PER SQ FT$175.16FEATURED IN2009 Architectural Portfolio end-user coordination meetings, as well as presenting the design to various oversight committees for approval. The architect also coordinated all of the engineering disciplines, including civil, MEP, structure, geotechnical engineering and telecom data system design.
This building was designed to provide maximum flexibility in the configuration of offices and classrooms without compromising the utility infrastructure. In addition, the building cost was reduced through the introduction of simple structural and mechanical systems.
This project was completed on schedule and under budget. At the end of the project, more than $400,000 in value-engineered savings was returned to the college.
The project was designed for LEED silver certification. Other considerations: landscape architecture, ADA requirements, CM at risk delivery and value engineering.
